General InformationAdmissionUndergraduate: Official admission to the University is not required for Wintermester students taking undergraduate-level courses (001-499). However, a nonrefundable application fee of $60 is assessed if you wish to enroll in undergraduate or graduate credit courses. This fee applies to ALL students, including independent learning, nondegree, returning and graduate students who: * have never attended the University; or Graduate: Official graduate-level admission is required prior to registration in any graduate course (500-799). Those who are not University of Nevada, Reno graduates or have not previously been admitted to graduate study at the University must complete the Application for Wintermester 2010 Registration, pay the $60 application fee in addition to registration fees, and certify prior completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution to be considered as a Graduate Special student. Wintermester students are subject to University regulations as printed in the University’s General Catalog, available at: www.ss.unr.edu/records/catalog.asp. ImmunizationsIf you were born in 1957 or later, you must present documentation of immunization for the following: * two doses of immunizations for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) anytime in your lifetime AND, If you were born before 1957, you are exempt from the MMR requirement. However, you are required to have a diphtheria and tetanus immunization within the last 10 years. These immunizations may be obtained from the Washoe County Health Department, (775) 328-2400, or the Student Health Center, (775) 784-6598. International students have additional requirements and must contact the Student Health Center prior to registration. Maximum Credit LoadsWintermester credit is designated as semester credit and is equivalent to any given course taken in any other semester. To ensure quality and to comply with accreditation standards, a maximum credit load of four credits is set for Wintermester. It is suggested you not rely on Wintermester to fullfill a prerequisite for a Spring course. Also, please note these courses do not satisfy Fall credit discrepancies. Wintermester credits are part of your Spring 2010 load and will appear on your Spring 2010 transcripts. AuditingA class may be audited with the approval of the department offering the class. Audit request forms are available at the Office of Admissions and Records. Credits audited are considered when determining the maximum study load for regularly admitted students. The consolidated fee for auditors is $148.00 per credit for undergraduate-level courses or $224.75 per credit for graduate-level courses. Final Grade ReportsStudents may access final grade reports on DARS using the ePAWS system. ePAWS stations are available in the Student Services Building for student use. Access ePAWS at www.unr.edu and click on ePAWS Quick Link, from any Netscape Navigator, versions 7.0+, Firefox 1.0, or Microsoft Internet Explorer, versions 5.5+ ( 7.0+ for MACs). Some portions of ePAWS require Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0+. Intensive StudyThe University’s Wintermester courses offer a high concentration of contact hours in a short time. Be prepared to work hard! Wintermester courses are offered in a shorter time period, but are rigorous. University General CatalogThe current University General Catalog is available online for download here. Joe Crowley Student Union • (775) 784-6505The new Joe Crowley Student Union provides a diversity of programs and services for the entire University community, including the two-story ASUN Bookstore with fireplace and seating areas, computer sales, a convenience store, a number of dining options including a food court, and much more. Wintermester building hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m., subject to change; ASUN Bookstore hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Some offices and services in the JCSU may have separate hours. A valid Wolfcard student ID is required to borrow library materials, and an activated NetID is required for campus computer access. Research and Computing Help Desk and Labs • (775) 682-5000The Campus Computing Help Desk, located in the Atrium of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, is the first point of contact for student computing and networking questions. Receive help managing your email account, using WebCampus, setting up personal web pages and many other computer-related issues. Campus Computing also manages the @One General Computing Area in the Knowledge Center. The lab is open to all currently affiliated students, faculty and staff and includes more than 100 general-access computers. For entrance to @One, you must have a current NetID and WolfCard student ID. Labs are open during library hours. Computer labs are also available in a number of colleges and departments on campus.
